Class Trees

Since the class of 1868’s planting of a Swamp White Oak along Main Drive, every class of Vassar has either planted or adopted a tree, contributing to the Vassar Arboretum. Early tree dedications were historically conducted in secret. Now, sophomores either plant a tree or choose a preexisting tree as their own, which is an important and celebrated tradition. The class tree is a spot for gathering after graduation on reunion weekends. Read about our tree planting traditions here.
